I took a little break from blogging for a week, due to moving house and the intense and ridiculous heat in London. Ok, I know that everyone in America, India, Australia, pretty much every other country in the world, is laughing at the idea of England being “hot”. But it was. And I don’t deal well with heat. Pretty much took a break from being able to do anything except sit in front of the fan, shower four times a day, and moan about how sweaty I am. I like it when it rains. And is cold. It snowed a few months ago, and that was brilliant. I want to be cold!
The only thing I managed to read was a biography, Vivienne Westwood. You can read my review for that here. I very much enjoyed it, and it actually gave me a lot to think about. I’d definitely recommend it.
I also did Blog Ahead this month, which is challenge created by the lovely Andie at It’s A Reading Thing. Basically, you write 15 extra posts ahead of time for your blog. I think I managed 3 of the 15; not so good! I found the challenge useful though, actually. I don’t think I’m a write-ahead kind of person, but I do now have a schedule of sorts. It helps me keep on track with my ARC reviews, and with tag posts (which I really love doing, but usually forget about). And it forced me think about different things I wanted to do with this blog, which generated some fairly interesting ideas…
On the subject of interesting ideas…
What is coming up this month…?
I have two ARC reviews: Pyre at the Eyreholme Trust and The Great Illusion. I’m also very excited about The Mystery of Three Quarters, which is out at the end of the month. Can’t wait to dig into that one!
Bigger news though. Much bigger. My friend and I are starting a book club. We’re calling it “From Our TBR”, and it’s going to be brilliant. If I do say so myself…
We all talk a lot about our #TBRs in the blogosphere. Well, browsing the interwebs, turns out there’s an actual word for it! Love a new word… Apparently, the Japanese word “tsundoku”, means “the act of leaving a book unread after buying it, typically piling it up together with other such unread books”. Or, in other words, your #TBR! How cool that there’s a word for it…
There was no point to me telling you that, except I just found it and thought it was fun.
Anyway. I’ve seen some great methods of reducing TBRs on different blogs. And mine is honestly huge. But I’m a mood reader, and I just seem to struggle to get around to some of them. So, my friend and I came up with the idea of a book club (“From Our TBR”), to provide a little gentle encouragement to read some of those forgotten books!
We’ll pick a new book from one of our TBRs on the first day of every month. I’ll post up which book it is. We’ll probably share the books, to cut down on cost. This month we’re reading Circe, which is from my TBR.
On the last day of the month, we’ll get together to do a joint post about it. Maybe a video. Definitely there will be wine. Well, I’ll be having wine. Last day of the month is pay day, which everyone knows means “chill with a glass of wine day and feel sad about how you just got paid, but you’re still broke”.
And we’ll invite everyone else out there with teetering TBRs, or who just likes reading, or likes the book that month, to join in!
If you want to join in, let me know below that You’re In and you’re going to be reading Circe this month. Then I’ll tag you in the From my TBR review post at the end of the month.
If you want to join in the blogging, do your own review, contribute to ours in a joint fashion, let me know that too. We can share books by post, if anyone wants to and they’re based in the UK.
The whole point of this blog was that I like reading, and I like having people to talk to about books, hearing what they thought about them, getting their recommendations.
The more the merrier!
