Bookish Month

Bookish January

I’m not much of a one for wrap ups and TBRs… I just don’t have that much of a plan! Flying by the seat of my pants (for the most part)…

But I’ve committed myself to some definite goals this year, for once. So I figured I could update on those periodically – in case anyone’s interested!

So, what am I reading this month?ย

I don’t have much of a TBR at the moment… If you want to catch up on what I’m reading, I’ve been keeping my “Currently Reading” shelf updated on Goodreads. You’ll see it down the side of the blog.

ย New Releases

I’m aiming to read one new release a month this year.

After what felt like an eternity, The Wicked King finally, FINALLY, arrived this month. And, I’m sorry to say, I didn’t love it… I know everyone else in the entire world did, but I just found it too much… Too depressing. Too unrelatable. It got DNF’d. I might go back and re-read the entire series once the last book is out – maybe I’d feel differently if there hadn’t been that long ass gap…

The Queens of Innis Lear comes out 24th January. I’m not sure if I’m going to enjoy it yet… It sounded interesting but might be too much high drama for me – we’ll see!

The City of Broken Magic was recommended by Amanda @The Zen Leaf, and I loved the review of Queenie Malone’s Paradise Hotel over @Emma’s Bookish Corner – so I’ve picked both of those up and I’m excited to see how they pan out.

Backlist TBR

I have so many unread, or DNF’d, books on my shelves! (Don’t we all…) And, if I’m honest, I’m probably never going to go clean them out… I just like having books around! I’ll get around to them when I get around to them…

But I do like to try and pick one or two books from my backlist every month. If nothing else, it saves on the cost of new books!

This month, it’s City of Blades, the second book in the Divine Cities trilogy. I loved the first in the series, City of Stairs, and it really stuck with me (you can read my review here), so I’m super excited about book two!

I haven’t got any ARCs pending this month! I haven’t been requesting as much, because I got really bogged down with ARCs last year and decided I better be more selective this year.

Anything Else

I’m reading A Discovery of Witches for my Book2Screen Challenge – right after I finish watching season one on Amazon! I’m quite enjoying the TV show, so the book might be fun…

Kinsey & Me is the last Sue Grafton I haven’t read (sobs). I know I’m going to love it. She’s one of my favourite writers.

I Am Ozzy was given to me by my partner for our anniversary (he knows me so well!) and I just haven’t gotten around to it yet. It’s super trashy, so I’m saving it for a chill read later in the month.

Ink & Bone was recommended by Genevieve Cogman on Goodreads, and I love her books so I thought I’d give it a go.

What are you reading this month? How’s your reading month going? Have you read any of the books on my TBR for the month?

  1. Haha I’m doing it the other way around – i have a feeling that otherwise the show will be spoiled for me by comparisons with the book ๐Ÿ˜‚

  2. Ah such a shame about wicked king- I’ve been looking forward to that one- but it does make sense since that series is so hit or miss. I really loved the discovery of witches tv show (though I’ll admit I wasn’t as keen on the book). Anyway, good luck with all of these!

  3. Everyone else has loved Wicked King… so it’s probably just me… I just found it a bit too dramatic and depressing. I wanted some levity and hopefulness – or what’s the point? But maybe I’ll go back and read the series when it’s all out and feel differently! Just finished series one of Discovery of Witches, it was good! Bit cheesy. Lots of fun! Super tense haha I’m going to start the book next ๐Ÿ™‚
