Having successful Marie Kondo’d my book shelves, I decided it was time to look at the TBR pile by my bed…
- I picked up Erebus, decided it was dry af, and put it back down. It’s a shame because I really like Michael Palin’s travel books, but it just didn’t do it for me.
- I’m so over rockstar stories, so I Am Ozzy, while a pretty good biography, very funny, a strong voice, isn’t doing it for me.
- I read about a third of The Muse and then had enough of the time changes.
- And, Red Queen rather did me in, so I’ve been struggling to even bother with Lost Boys – I’ll get to it eventually, but I think I’m going to have to take a break from Christina Henry…
In true Tidying Up spirit, I picked them up again, and, since they still didn’t spark anything for me, I decided to DNF them.
I know it’s a controversial topic, but I’m a fan of the ruthless DNF – life’s too short to waste on a book you’re not enjoying. However, in this case, it did leave a significant derth of reading material in its wake. I don’t like being without a book at any point… It was time for a book haul!
One Waterstone’s gift card, and a significant Amazon order, later…
What I’m most excited about…
Author: Zen Cho | Publisher: Macmillan
I’m pretty much sold on Sorceror to the Crown just from the description:
In Regency London, Zacharias Wythe is England’s first African Sorcerer Royal. He leads the eminent Royal Society of Unnatural Philosophers, but a malicious faction seeks to remove him by fair means or foul. Meanwhile, the Society is failing its vital duty – to keep stable the levels of magic within His Majesty’s lands. The Fairy Court is blocking its supply, straining England’s dangerously declining magical stores. And now the government is demanding to use this scarce resource in its war with France.
Ambitious orphan Prunella Gentleman is desperate to escape the school where she’s drudged all her life, and a visit by the beleaguered Sorcerer Royal seems the perfect opportunity. For Prunella has just stumbled upon English magic’s greatest discovery in centuries – and she intends to make the most of it.
At his wits’ end, the last thing Zachariah needs is a female magical prodigy! But together, they might just change the nature of sorcery, in Britain and beyond.
What I’m least excited about…
Author: Mario Puzo | Publisher: Arrow
The Godfather is a fantastic book, but I’ve already read it a bunch of times. This is just one I feel I need to own, for the sake of my library. I probably won’t read it again right away so I’m not super excited about it.
Pre-orders to be added to my TBR…
I have a bunch of pre-orders most months. They’re ordered on pay day, and then arrive when they’re released.
This month I’m still waiting on quite a few to add to my TBR… February was a busy month for book releases, for some reason!
What are you reading this month? Have you read any of the books from my book haul? Are you waiting on any of the same new releases?
